Decorating for the Festival
Maya: "Arjun, you put all the marigolds at the door again."
Arjun: "Yes! Then it will look like a golden waterfall when people walk in."
Maya: "But Amma said it should be neat. This looks like a big pile."
Arjun: "It looks like a story. Like the flowers are flowing to the rangoli."
Maya: "Guests will step on your story and crush it."
Appa: "What’s going on, little decorators?"
Maya: "Arjun keeps doing these big plans. Yesterday he wanted star laddus."
Arjun: "Festivals should feel magical, not like homework."
Maya: "Magic is fine, but the tray is small and the floor is small."
Appa: "Arjun, you’re such an idealist. Your head is full of shiny ideas."
Arjun: "So an idealist is someone who wants everything to be extra special?"
Appa: "Yes, you see the best way the world could be."
Maya: "And I see where people can slip and fall."
Arjun: "Okay, idealist and safety boss. Team work?"
Maya: "We can make a neat flower line around the rangoli and a tiny waterfall in the corner."
Arjun: "Perfect. Then everyone will say, ‘Who made this?’ and I’ll say, ‘The idealist and his safety boss!’"
