The Laddoo Dilemma
Anya: "Ravi, come fast! They're giving out laddoos at the temple stall!"
Ravi: "Wait, Anya… I’ll come later."
Anya: "Later? The laddoos will finish! Why do you always stop like a red light?"
Ravi: "Everyone is staring… what if I drop mine? Amma will laugh."
Anya: "Amma never laughs like that. She only laughs like hot jalebis."
Ravi: "My tummy feels twisty. My feet want to go, but they… don’t."
Amma: "I can hear you two over the drum beats. What’s happening?"
Anya: "Amma, Ravi’s scared to take laddoos. He’s stuck."
Ravi: "I’m not scared. I just… stand and think too long."
Amma: "That standing-and-thinking is called ‘hesitate’, kanna."
Ravi: "But if I don’t hesitate, what if I do something silly?"
Anya: "Everyone does silly things at the festival! Look at that uncle dancing."
Amma: "You can hesitate for one breath, Ravi. After that, you choose."
Ravi: "One breath only?"
Amma: "Yes. Smell the incense, hear the drums, feel my hand. Then decide."
Anya: "And decide for laddoos. Obviously."
Ravi: "Okay. I’ll try. One breath…"
Anya: "The auntie is smiling at you. She even has extra boondi stuck to her spoon."
Ravi: "My feet are moving! Anya, don’t let me hesitate again."
Amma: "Look at you, marching like a little drum."
Ravi: "Auntie, can I have one laddoo, please?"
Laddoo Auntie: "Take two, beta. For not hesitating today."
Anya: "See? No dropping, no laughing. Just sweet laddoos."
Ravi: "Next time I feel stuck, I’ll remember this. I’ll hesitate for one breath… then move."
