Birthday Dispute
Meera: "Hey, that’s my ladoo! You already took yours."
Arjun: "No, Amma kept this one for me. She said I can have two because it’s my birthday."
Meera: "But Amma told me everyone gets only one. You’re just grabbing it!"
Arjun: "I’m not grabbing, I’m just faster."
Meera: "Arjun, you always do this when there’s something yummy."
Arjun: "You always say that. It’s not true today."
Amma: "What’s going on? I can hear fighting louder than the mixer."
Meera: "Arjun took my ladoo and is pretending it’s his."
Arjun: "I’m not pretending! I asserted that this ladoo is mine because you said I get an extra one, Amma."
Meera: "Asserted? That just means you said it very strongly!"
Amma: "I did say he gets an extra, for his birthday. But he can assert it without shouting."
Arjun: "Okay… I assert, calmly, that this ladoo is my birthday extra."
Meera: "Fine. But I assert that I get to lick the big spoon from the kadhai."
Amma: "Those are some strong assertions. Done — birthday boy gets the ladoo, big sister gets the spoon."
Arjun: "Deal. I’m glad I asserted my birthday rights… and shared a tiny bite."
